A successful event will not only mean that you have thrilled clients or friends, but it will also ensure that you get positive referrals and more business. If you are hosting an event for yourself, a successful event will not only make your friends envious, but could open the doors to event planning as an exciting full time business!

  1. Commitment. You and your team need to throw your all into ensuring that the event is a massive success.
  2. Don’t think you can do it alone. Assess whether you will need a team of friends as volunteers of whether you will need to hire staff to make the event a success.
  3. Determine the purpose of the event. Is it to make money? To increase awareness of your client’s brand? Is it a celebration? Sometimes events are even a combination of all three. Once you have determined the purpose of the event with your client, you will need to plan accordingly.
  4. Be part of the planning process. If your client is hosting an event, make sure that you are able to offer feedback and share your connections with them to make their jobs easier. They are sure to appreciate it and recommend you later to their colleagues.
  5. Determine how you will measure the success of the event.
  6. If this is a recurring event, speak to people who have worked on it previously and ask them for advice and support. Find out what went right, what went wrong, and what they think could be done to improve. Their involvement will not only make your job easier, but it will also make them feel more involved and appreciated.
